Old rocks/news rocks
Location
The last couple of days I''ve been chilling in Lipari at the beach. It''s a very relaxed place and it''s a nice change to the cities where everyone is so well dressed.
The last week has been mostly spent looking at either really old rocks in the form of Greek or Roman ruins, pottery etc at Syracuse or really new rocks in the form of active volcanoes at Mt Etna. I climbed to the top of Mt Etna, to the active caldera that only blew its top last year. Although it was quite windy there you could hear the magma bubling below and everywhere you looked there were steam vents. Not a good idea to put your hand over them because they''re prone to sudden bursts of hot air as I found out the hard way. The ground is soft black ash with crusts of sulphur everywhere, the smell at time is unbearable.
This afternoon Im catching a tour boat to Stromboli and return after dark in order to see the lava flows glowing at night.
That's all for now. Hope everyone at home is well.
