If you don't like New York then you just don''t like cities.
New York's got it all. In fact its got much more of the stuff I've already seen heaps of in the museums and galleries of Europe. Its got a lot of Europe. I was always facinated with all the things from one country that end up in another country''s museums. But with all the wars and trading that went on in Europe for thousands of years I could kind of understand it. Today at the Metropolitan Museum of Art I find collections of Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Islamic etc etc art and artifacts that rival any collection I''ve seen so far.
Most of the works it seems had been purchased by wealthy American then donated to the museum. Apart from a Egyptian tomb which was donated to the USA by President Hussain of Egypt when he damed the Nile and the tomb was periodically submerged under water. The US came to the rescue with funds to save that and other artifacts in danger of being destroyed and were rewarded with a gift of any artifact they wished. Quite a nice story I thought.
Yesterday my visit to the UN headquaters was top on a list of many sightseeing adventures. Also of note was the FREE ferry to Stanton Island and back.
Much more to tell but so precious little internet time in a city with so many other unique adventures.
