Arrived in Sandakan

Just in from the jungle and the mountain.

It's been a full on week of advanture since last Sunday when I strolled around Kota Kinabalu's Sunday markets. Sandakan is in many ways similar but a little smaller than KK, although they both have quite an interesting street market on a Sunday.

After leaving KK we spent an evening in Kiau with our moutain guides and porters. They treated us to some local cooking freshly prepared from their fields. After dinner we were introduced to their home-made rice wine and the way it should be drink. Basically you take a shot and if there's a drop left in your glass you take another shot. Then you never get half-way through a glass before it is topped up again and you are encouraged to drink more. Once you've drunk enough you fall asleep on the floor, wake up and continue the cycle.

I would continue with the rest of the days now but there's too much to see and do in Sandakan and such little time.
